I seem to be uncomfortable making a wide-sweeping statement regarding 365 days of my life. I can not find myself labeling the year 2011 as ‘the best year of my life’, or ‘a year of discovering myself’, or anything of the like. Not that I don’t believe in that type of sentiment – by all means, I respect those who can define their year in a neat generalized category, because at the end of it all, its all simply our own perception of our realities that should really matter to us, right? That being said, I look back at the year 2011 and feel only one thing: content. Content because at the beginning of 2011, I sat on the balcony with the love of my life and made a rough map of what my year would look like, what I hoped to accomplish, and where the challenges would lay. And looking back, I can proudly say that I succeeded in doing exactly what I had hoped this year. It wasn’t terribly exciting or ravishing, but in a way 2011 became my year of preparation: for greater things, and also in leaving the past behind. I can say that I sincerely learned a lot this past year, more then I have perhaps ever learned, both about myself and the world around me. This blog and the identity of the Endoxist is a direct reflection of that higher wisdom. Not that I call myself wise – I’m far from it. But coming back to my point, 2011 has been and will forever become my year of preparation and my year of being content. And yes, that makes me quite proud. I think its important to reflect back on past failures and accomplishments, both to encourage and warn yourself for what the future may hold. The last couple days of no work, no school and for once, no other major responsibilities has given me a chance to reflect on what I want 2012 to be for me, and it’s a tall order to say the least. But if I come at this year with even half the determination and strength that I tackled 2011 with, I’m sure I’ll be alright. And of course, the support, guidance and dedication of my family, my friends and my one and only B make the journey toward accomplishing my goals all the more enjoyable, laughable and worthwhile.
