PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
I am definitely a man of many words, but for this, I don’t know if I can find the words to properly portray the feelings, the emotions, the love in that space. The historic St. Nicholas Church in the centre of Prague’s Old Town Square seemed the most fitting for the entire essence of our #KCFairyTale. The entire ceremony was translated into German, meaning Monika got to hear everything twice, and me (and everyone else who doesn’t speak German) got to have a moment to soak everything in. I have no living grandparents, so Monika’s Oma graciously acted on behalf of all elders, and did us the honour of escorting our Cartier LOVE Rings down the aisle. The bridesmaids wore all white, a nod to the tradition from centuries ago, so as to fool any evil spirits.
My beautiful bride stunned me so much when she was walking down the aisle that I didn’t even get a chance to properly see her dress! As she stood in front of me during the ceremony, I kept getting lost in her eyes, and then realizing that I wanted so badly to step back and just take in all her beauty, to actually examine this garment that was so shrouded in secrecy for the last ten months. The string quartet played our hand-picked classics, our parents sat in the two front rows of the church, I definitely let the tears roll down when we exchanged the vows, but not when I recited my own vows. The rings – like magic – lifted from their nestled Cartier boxes, into our hands, and then unto each others’ fingers. The sparkle of my wife’s Chanel earrings kept catching my eye, I could hear my mom quietly weeping tears of joy, and I remember everything in slow motion, as I stopped and let everything slowly soak in, like a thick perfume soaking into a plush velvet.
Those moments humble me, make me proud, and make me weak with emotion. The best part is that I sometimes slowly play them back in my head and just bask in that space. Immediately after we exited the church, we performed the German tradition of cutting a log together, then we performed our First Dance right outside the church, in the middle of Old Town Square, with the accompaniment of the string quartet. A champagne toast followed, and then our horse carriage whisked us away through the streets of Prague. In perfect weather. With my beautiful bride. Speechless. But not quite.
