PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
Because every German stops in the middle of the day to have coffee and cake. Because Pakistanis can’t function without a hot cup of Chai around 3:00 pm. Because Monika and I die for Afternoon Tea. Because my mother-in-law hand-made our wedding cake (three layers, each one different and each one our favourites) and we didn’t want it sitting on a table in the Palace, forgotten about until the late hours of the night. Because we wanted that very cake to be the focal point of the event. Because the Palace Gardens had a splendid gazebo which overlooked the Vlata River. Because we wanted our guests to chill out and listen to a live Accordion player. Because we had fresh macarons which arrived from Ladurée in Paris and our favourite milk burfi hand-carried on the plane all the way from Calgary. Because after the surprise Vintage Tram Tour of the city of Prague for all our guests, we wanted them to eat and drink something before the Grand Feast…
For all those reasons, we decided to host a Tea Party on our wedding day. Guests filled out advice cards for us (which we will open on our anniversary), we had a Polaroid station with props and our hashtag, the live accordion player kept everyone’s spirits up, and hands-down we chowed down on the best wedding cake anyone has ever had! Our sisters made their speeches, Monika tossed her bouquet and the smaller children had a chance to play in the nearby park. The weather was literally so spectacular that the locals approached us, thanking us for the apparent good fortune we brought with us. Our Tea Party was everything we wanted it to be, and it was also the perfect chance for us to slip away while our guests enjoyed themselves so that we could properly prepare ourselves for the Grand Feast & Ball.
