I haven’t felt this way about a day for almost four years… which is probably because today, the last day of the 2nd month of the year, marks that strange anomaly that our society normalizes – or tries to. The 29th of February only comes around once every four years. I’m sure Wikipedia would provide a quick synopsis as to the mathematical and astrological reasons behind this phenomenon, but all day I couldn’t help but wonder: what was I doing today, four years ago? A lot has changed, of course, but right now, at this point in my life, it feels like that change is more profound than ever before. Back on February 29, 2008, I didn’t even write a blog, let alone know what a blog was (my first post was a couple of months later in June). I was a student at the University, frivolously taking business courses for my then-destined Bachelor of Commerce (I’ve just now finished my Communication degree with a Minor in Sociology). I was still driving my first ever car: a standard Mazda MX-6. Photography meant a Point-And-Shoot, Fashion meant shopping at Underground and designer denim, and the weekend automatically meant at least two – if not three – nights out at the clubs: Plush, Cherry Lounge, SoHo, Whiskey, Mynt, etc. Back then, I had three half-paid credit cards, a non-Smartphone (do those still exist?!), and some random non-MacBook computer. Funny because four years definitely does not seem like that long ago, but man things have changed. And the best part is that things have changed for the better. Progression, for me, has been positive and linear. And for that, I’m extremely happy. Today deemed a delightful reminiscent reflection. So, what were you doing today, four years ago?
