It was April of 2008. I had just finished a busy day of studying in the Law Library, and was headed to Chinook to meet some friends for dinner. I casually walked past the accliamed luxury jewelry store, Jewels by Maxine, and looked through their Gucci silver jewelry. And much to my delight, the interlocking G cutout ring was sitting their in the display case. Let me give you some background. I saw this ring on the Gucci website, but since Gucci refuses to ship anywhere in Canada, I was stuck. I called both the Vancouver and the Toronto Gucci boutiques, and got the same answer; nothing can be done if its not in stock. Apparently, they couldn’t even order it in for me. I spoke with Gucci in New York, in Los Angelos, and even the Gucci jewelry flagship store on Rodeo Drive, and honestly, NO ONE seemed to have the ring. So imagine the pure ectasy I was in when I seen it, right there in the Chinook location of Jewels by Maxine.
I looked at it immedietly, and unfortunately, they didnt have my size. But nothing to worry about, they would order me a size, which usually takes two weeks. Sure, no problem! I’d been on the search for this ring since December 2007, what would another few weeks do, right? Well, I got a call a few days later, it would actually take up to six months, because it needed to be shipped from Italy. Again, I couldn’t say much considering I already put down a 30% deposit. If your following along, this would mean that I would have the ring by October 2008, just in time for back to school. Nobody contacted me. I called the store a few times and they always assued me somebody would get a hold of me. Nothing.
I started popping into Jewels by Maxine every time I was at Chinook Mall (which, if you’re been keeping tabs, is at least once a week), and still no sign of this ring. I would explain my perdicament to whichever SA helped me, they would be super sympathetic but it would end there. Still no ring. Finally, a few weeks ago, the manager offered me a different ring which she was going to make sure got ordered. Apparently, the Gucci Rep got fired because she did such a horrible job. Clearly. Anyway, I got a call last week saying my original ring that I ordered was in now, so I could come by and pick it up. Finally, after FOURTEEN months of waiting after ordering, and almost two years since I saw it online, I would have my ring. And yes, this is a happy ending, because the ring is just gorgeous.
…lets add to the happiness shall we?
So while the SA was getting my ring ready, I was browsing the Gucci watches over at the other end of the store. And the gorgeous black stainless steel chronograph watch, which I’ve been eyeing since I first saw it last year, was on display. IT’S GORGEOUS. And what’s better/worse? The SA asked me to try it on. I agreed. And the rest, as they say, is history, baby!
