[bigletter]When we found out we were pregnant, one of the first things we did was figure out what exactly we needed to buy. And for that, we knew that we needed to put together a registry. But with an Instagram aesthetic in mind, and the reality of not living in a mansion, we were very intentional in what we decided to add to our registry before we hosted our #MidsummerPicnic baby shower.
We had often heard of West Coast Kids from our friends who had babies, and we were so excited to discover that they had almost all of the things we wanted for our little one - from small independent brands to reliable big names. So today, I am sharing my New Baby Registry Essentials that you need on your list.[/bigletter]
in generous partnership with West Coast Kids
BABY CARRIER
Although we haven't picked a particular parenting strategy, we do know that one thing we will do a ton of is holding and carrying our little one. So we knew that a carrier of some sort would be super important, and it seems that the internet is obsessed with the Ergobaby one. I personally love the adjustable straps so it can grow with baby.
WOODEN TOYS
It is super important for us to show baby both the things we have a passion for, and also our jobs, so stuff like this wooden camera toy from PlanToys was an instant 'add-to-registry' for me. The best part is that these type of things also make for perfect decor, and in our case, the cutest props for future Instagram props, so definitely a win-win for me.
BABY LOUNGER
As parents who work from home, we will definitely be relying on both reliable and aesthetic loungers and chairs for our baby. I saw the Baby Bjorn model on a handful of lists from other to-be parents. The cool thing is that this is light enough to randomly move around the house, and also comes in a handful of different colours.
DOPE CLOTHING
When we found out that we were having a girl, Monika couldn't help but control her excitement about a lifetime of fashion adventures together. And honestly, I didn't think much about 'matching' with the baby, but when I discovered this brand, I was so excited! I was able to surprise Monika with a matching "Mama" one, and we got one for the little lady too.
LOTS OF BOOKS
One of the ways that I learnt how to speak and write English, which then eventually lead to my Communications degree, was a big fat library full of books. So we often talked about having a ton of books to read for little baby, and this one is accompanied by toys which we already have in her little collection.
CULTURAL TOYS
It should come as no surprise to any long-time reader that the infusion and embodiment of both of our cultures is very important to us, and we are keen to ensure that our child will grow up to learn the intricate balance her parents' heritages will play in her life. So these German wooden blocks from Uncle Goose were a no brainer in our Baby Registry.
SLEEPING BASINET
One of the first things we thought about with baby was where exactly she would sleep, and how. We had planned for her to be in her nursery right from the beginning, until we educated ourselves on SIDS and also the practicality of having our newborn super close for feeding and diapering purposes. These bassinets are truly lifesavers, and the swivel one from Halo was a no brainer for our registry.
BABY LOUNGER
To be totally honest, this thing I thought was just cool and chic, but Monika reminded me that this type of sleeping pillow easily goes from sofa to bed, and to a hotel room (whenever we'll ever be allowed to travel again). Again, the Snuggle Me one comes in so many colours, and makes for a great addition to our baby registry.
Along with the key items above, we added a bunch of swaddles, onesies, baby hats, and burp clothes, all in our favourite neutral earthy tones.
