Because we both work in the industry, we're always talking about new pieces, or iconic pieces, or a new launch or whatever, and so throughout the year, I keep a running list of the things / brands / trends that have spoken to Monika and then I can easily decide what I want to buy her for her birthday.
A few years ago, we decided that instead of a series of small gifts - for example, a book, a candle, a nice pair of socks, and maybe earrings - we would instead commit to getting each other 'big' gifts. One major fashion item that we definitely want but wouldn't go out of our way to buy for ourselves. And so this is the system that works for us.
