First in Milan, and then in Paris, capes have crept unto the catwalk, paired with ultra-masculine suits and the sullen look of runway models. From heavy hitters like Dolce, to new comers like Umit Benan, and Agnès B and Mugler in between, designers are trying their luck with the cape. To be quite frank, these look like blankets thrown on the shoulders of a seemingly well dressed male heading out to the office, no? Capes have been around in womenswear for quite a few seasons, but they really made it big last season, especially with the notorious DKNY PR Girl promoting them hard on Twitter. And here at the Endoxist, we’re all about gender-bending and blurring the lines between mens- and womenswear. I mean, I’m all about “don’t knock it till you try it”, but it seems like the proportions aren’t right for this – especially with the Greek god bodies of above models. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to look like I spent all my cash on a killer suit, and had to opt for a blanket off my bed instead of a sharp overcoat to battle the cold outside. Thoughts?
