Milano Moda Uomo, or Milan Men’s Fashion Week started for us with the brilliant Christian Pellizzari Spring/Summer 2017 Runway Collection, which actually featured both mens- and womenswear. Pellizzari’s inspiration came from the beautiful city of Venice, Italy and from Venice Beach, California – both very different places, equally beautiful in very different ways. If you have ever been to Venice in Italy, you may know the historic beauty and magic of the city. One can get lost in the small streets that all look the same (we know, because when we were there for New Years a few years ago, we did!). The city boasts traditional arts and gothic architectural design. Pellizzari took the the structured uniform style from the city of Venice, and superimposed it with the floral prints of Venice beach. The interesting combination of the two places that inspire the Spring/Summer 2017 Collection is hard to imagine without having seen the pieces. But after viewing the collection, it is a truly wonderful merging of culture and art and the outcome is a refined yet fun look.
Much to my delight, Pellizzari also showed a few womenswear looks during his show. Both mens- and womenswear features large and small check patterns, florals and bold stiff silk. There was fitted pants for the guys and both slim and wide leg for women. Trench coats as well as bomber style jackets were seen repeatedly, both layered on and also worn. All of the models were wearing slip-on style footwear or sandals. Truly a well-rounded collection; we were transported at once to both Northern Italy’s canals and Southern USA’s beaches. Bravo!
