By the time this is auto-posted, I will have (hopefully) survived the treacherous six hour drive through mountainous terrain to beautiful Nakusp, in the northwestern part of the British Columbian province. It is precisely because of these road conditions – and the absence of commercial flights – that we spend our ‘Christmas’ with my girlfriend’s family early on in November. We take up all of our gifts, enjoy turkey dinners, scrumptious holiday baking, chat and catch up, and enjoy a true country/mountain Christmas before we trek back to Calgary and dive into the madness that is Christmas. This year promises to be especially challenging with a wedding, numerous birthdays, my parent’s 30th wedding anniversary, my final finals, and of course, Christmas and New Years – all immediately after we arrive back in Calgary. As such, I consider it a blessing to enjoy some non-internet and no-cell-reception time in a beautiful mountain acreage with my girlfriend and her family, and for what better reason then an early Christmas? It is, after all, the best time of the year.
