The revival at Gucci is so evident you can almost taste it. Walking through the Milanese flagship boutique on Monte Napoleone, the entirely refurbished store seems to breathe a fresh breath direct from the soul of Alessandro Michele, further pronounced by the endless articles available for purchase – Dionysus Bags in every imaginable combination of leather and embellishment and Princetowns to make you swoon. Following the spirit of modernity and innovation, Gucci is launching a project very close to Alessandro’s heart. Starting today, the first day of Milan Fashion Week, customers are invited to discover the fresh new first floor of the Gucci Boutique at Monte Napoleone, which has been permanently transformed into the DIY space. The do-it-yourself concept encourages and entices you to hand pick the finishes and details of the clothes you wear, the shoes you rock and the bag you tote, to have truly unique and one-of-a-kind pieces.
Ever since he was a teenager, Alessandro has been infatuated with punk culture – this rebellious and unique self expression. And this punk mentality of one-of-a-kind self-expression and creating your own unique pieces that do not fit any mould has been near and dear to the Creative Director’s heart. Thus, he launched this #GucciDIY Project – this exciting concept is currently only available in the Gucci Flagship here in Milan, and has been launched exclusively during Fashion Week, but beginning in Fall of this year, it will be available worldwide. And this customization stretches further then simply picking an embellishment for a purse. This project features garments, shoes, accessories and bags. There is more then thirty different linings options available for the lining of the jackets, and new categories of ready-to-wear (like silk printed shirts) are becoming available daily, inspired by Alessandro’s own imagination and Gucci archives.
Clients can choose between various leathers and exotics, embellishments and embroidery, and unique monograming and patches to match their own unique style, and all is then custom made at the Gucci ateliers and workshops in Italy. Delivery time is between two weeks and a few months, depending on the complexity of the item and the materials that you specify. And don’t worry, #GucciDIY will be available worldwide beginning in September. With Gucci, the possibilities are endless, and now, they are all of your own desire.
