Dude, what can I say about Dan & Dean Caten? By far one of my absolute favorite houses of Fashion, DSQUARED2 presented another completely killer collection for Fall 2010 in Milan a few weeks ago. And sans the initial Adam-Lambert-Meets-Lady-Gaga first look (pictured above), I can relate to every single look coming down that catwalk. I’m still kicking myself for not accepting the invite for this show, but oh well, there’s always Spring/Summer 2011 right? Anyway, being a proud Canadian myself, I know first hand exactly what actual hockey boys look like, how they act, and how we as Canadians, on a sociological point of view, idolize these said “hockey boys”, glorifying their masculinity and their expected aggressive behavior, both on and off the ice. Some people up here in the Great White North would go as far as to say that either you play hockey, or you cheer it on. There’s no other options. I mean that’s a bit of a narrow-minded point of view, but nonetheless, the love and passion of hockey is really deeply rooted in all Canadian beings. And who better to bring that almost animal hockey instinct to the fashion world then fashion’s twin marvels, hailing from Ontario themselves? Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you DSQUARED2’s rendition of the Bad-Ass Hockey Boy, post-fight (because all boys who play hockey inevitably hockey fight):
Okay forget the Hockey-Night-In-Canada theme music that I know is playing in your head, and lets focus on the clothes. The fucking clothes! OH MY GOSH. Leather pants. Multiple thin belts. Leather driving gloves. Mesh tanks. Skinny ties. Fitted blazers. Cropped blazer. Tuxedo-lapel blazers. Layers upon layers of accessories. Graphic tee shirts. Over-sized lapel brooches. Drop crotch EVERYTHING. Studded belts. Washed-to-perfection denim. Chains. I could go on and on. Its everything a guy needs in his closet to step out looking like a million bucks! Mark my words, I could live off this entire RTW collection for TWO solid years just by mixing and matching the pieces, everything being exclusively DSQUARED2. I think its safe to say that that DSQUARED2 Man for Fall/Winter 2010 is
dressed fresh to death but ready to lay it down
hence every model looking like he just got mugged – but its a good thing, right? Dan & Dean throw masculinity square in our face. And you know what this collection really says to me? Yes I’m wearing pointy dress shoes. Yes my denim is worth a car payment. And yes, I spent an hour styling my hair. But I still just kicked your ass, so don’t fuck around. No? That’s what I see. And I love this. Fashion for EVERY MAN out there, not just the stereotypical ones. Hey, even Hockey Boys can walk down the runway. Embrace this, fellas. Its a great thing.
