It’s hard to believe that life is already presenting me with my five year wedding anniversary. And if you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know that 5 has a special significance to us - we were dating for five years when we got married, on the 5th. We started dating and got engaged on the 5th, and we hosted five wedding events in Prague in 2015 for our wedding. And, now, for our fifth year wedding anniversary, we’re expecting a baby! Needless to say, 5 has become very important for us, and this October, we’ll be celebrating our “champagne anniversary” - our fifth anniversary on the fifth. So of course, I had to get five gifts for my wife, and today, I’m sharing them with you to give you five ideas for your own gift giving.
something custom
When done in the right way - true to your style - a custom gift makes for the perfect present. For this occasion, I found a great piece that is actually two gifts in one. A his and hers engraved cuff from Custom Cuffs, with our wedding date in Roman numerals accompanied by our wedding hashtag. A gold for her and a silver for me.
something that’s been picked out
One thing I’ve learnt is that my wife (and most women I would assume) are very picky and very particular. So I’ve kind of made it a principle to get her help for any major gift that’s to come. My wife has been wanting this Chloe Faye bag for probably three years now, and the classic style is kind of iconic now, and she has nothing in this colour, so a non-surprise gift is a great choice.
something that’s a total surprise
That being said, you can always use that to your advantage and shock your gift receiver. Since Monika already picked out a Chloe bag, she had no idea that a Chanel bag was waiting for her. But because it’s another major bag purchase, there’s no way I would be picking that out on my own. So I gave her a Chanel bank / money printing press so we can shop for a special something.
something that’s commemorative
A special celebration - anniversary, birthday, or any other milestone - should be commentated and remembered with an item. So I decided on getting her something she doesn’t have in her collection yet - a chunky gold bracelet from Michael Kors newly launched jewellery collection with a special “V” charm for our 5th year.
something that can’t be unwrapped
And of course as I always say - the best gifts can’t be wrapped. So a special experience - a date, a photo shoot, a stay - will go a long way to commemorate an anniversary. So the last gift was a stay at the iconic castle in the Rockies, the Fairmont Banff springs, which will now forever be connected with our own front anniversary celebrations.
Celebrations and gifting have always been something I've been so passionate for - I have an entire category dedicated to it. I'm always looking for fresh inspiration though - so if you have any gems of wisdom, leave them in the comments below!
