I've always wanted to visit Singapore, especially because my parents both lived there before they had any children but after they got married. They always talked about it so fondly - the food, the cleanliness, the climate. And then, last year, when the highly anticipated movie Crazy Rich Asians debuted (and we got to watch an advanced screening with NARS at TIFF), my desire to visit the small island country was ignited even more.
On top of that, our very good friends that we met in Berlin (and travelled with to Bucharest) had recently relocated to Singapore, and so the reasons kept piling up to visit this beautiful country! So, after we had finished up with our tour of Thailand, we knew we absolutely had to go see them, and Singapore, before we headed onward to Bali. So we organized a five-ish hour layover for ourselves and flew into the iconic Changi Airport from Malaysia.

Our friends planned the perfect little itinerary for us. Its only a 20 minute Uber ride from the airport to the city centre, and so we met them for a late brunch of Dim Sum (where we had the best soup dumplings!). Another quick car ride later, we found ourselves at the iconic Marina Bay Sands, where one the biggest luxury shopping districts lives. From here, we took an underground walkway to 'Louis Vuitton Island', a museum-like boutique housing the greatest from the French luxury brand.
This was followed with a nice sit down afternoon tea at TWG in the centre court of Marina Bay Sands, where we bought caught up with our friends but also made plans of how soon we could return to this tropical paradise. And then, just like that, it was time to head back to the airport to catch our flight onwards to Bali, Indonesia.
And so, as cliche as it sounds, it truly was a 'Crazy Rich Asian' moment - we arrived in a whirlwind, had Dim Sum, a spot of shopping, a sip of tea, and then headed back to the airport. But this tranquil, perfect-climate, luxury country in Asia definitely stole our heart right away.
