REUTLINGEN, GERMANY
Although it’s hard to believe, sometimes you need a vacation from your vacation. Well, I guess that’s not a fair statement – we are definitely enjoying our time here in Berlin but those of you who have kept in touch know that we are far from lounging around. No, we aren’t waking up and packing lunch and running to a desk but yes we have an alarm and deadlines and project goals and meetings. So we have been doing lots of work but also thoroughly enjoying ourselves. But in this hustle, we forget how important it was to just chill and hang out and without realizing it, needed that time so bad.
Our very dear friend is currently living in Germany with her family during her maternity leave from Calgary and we had always talked about going to visit her hometown and parents when we had a chance. So we figured no time is like the present and we should seize the opportunity and go visit. And boy are we glad that we made the time! We seriously indulged in the company of old friends, new jokes, old memories and new experiences. In the few days that we were there, we managed to eat literally the best Italian food I have ever had at the most quaint restaurant in reiutlingen, browse through the most amazing outlet city that featured designers like jimmy choo, Prada, moncler, diesel, Burberry, Gucci, boss, Armani and zengna; take a guided tour through a thousand year old castle perched atop a hill; go out of our way for an ice cream date; have a traditional German bbq with a huge assortment of meats and potatoes salad; watch the euro cup match; and most importantly, enjoy the company of dear friends.
In the line of work that we have chosen, we are required to be far from old friends and family and we have to rely on technology to stay connected with them. Since moving to Berlin, we have interacted with many amazing people, and met the coolest people in London and Milan and Paris during fashion week, but there is something very unique and special about being around your old friends. Saying what you feel and doing what you want and eating that extra piece of cake and reminiscing about times past and planning for things to come. Only after returning home did we realize just how important that type of recharge is. And we are already making plans to do a repeat soon.
