After a whirlwind Advent season, starting in Ottawa, continuing in Barbados, and finishing up in Canmore, I am so excited that Christmas is finally here. We're back home in Calgary and celebrated Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2019 at my family's home, with - as always - too much food and tons of happy memories.
We setup a Christmas Eve charcuterie (the first time my parents experienced something like this), and then watched Home Alone I and Home Alone II - movies I haven't seen for SO long. The entire time was spent in my new red checkered pyjamas (from Hugo Boss) and if this isn't what Christmas is about then i don't know what is.
We had already decided that we wouldn't 'do gifts' this year, not even Secret Santa ones because we all kind of went off at the Gucci boutique in Barcelona a few months ago. But somehow, there was still a ton of presents to unwrap, which was a funny irony to say the least. And I had done tons of Pinterest research on a super indulgent drawn out Christmas morning breakfast, which Monika and I made for the whole family. Freshly baked croissants, fried eggs, thick cut bacon, and warm Hollandaise sauce, with a dessert of home-made Cranberry Bliss Bars. Food coma? Yes. And that, my friends, is what Christmas is all about. We also played a few games of Jenga and then had a gingerbread house decorating competition (with a cash prize!). Can you believe we still had turkey with all the fixings for dinner?
And today for Boxing Day, after so many years, we're hitting the shops to get our discount on! We're on the hunt for Christmas decorations and interior decor.
After last years escape to the mountain, it was a pleasant change to spend the time sprawled on a giant couch with a pile of Christmas baking and a cuddly dog by my side.
How was your Christmas? Did you celebrate? At least enjoy some downtime?
