PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
Common cliches like "how quickly time flies" and "best day of my life" used to warrant an eye-roll from me in the past, but as I get older, and every single time that I look back on this spectacular celebration, I hear myself saying the same. Last year, for our one year anniversary, we were lucky enough to visit Prague again, so this time around, being back in Canada, it truly feels like it has just been one year so far. But no, 2015 was two years ago and life has continued at the speed of lightening.
So today, in celebration of two years of being married, I thought I would take the opportunity to answer some of your most frequently asked questions about our #KCFairyTale in Prague. If you have any other, please comment below and I will use a different moment to address them!
WHY PRAGUE?
Way back in 2013, before we were even engaged, I told Monika that the next time we go to Europe, we have to visit Prague, because Kanye West famously filmed his first short film Runaway there. I'm telling you Fam, Ye has influenced more of my life then any other. Anyway, when we arrived in Prague for the first time ever, we were blown away by how breathtakingly gorgeous it is. And standing there in Old Town Square for the first time in 2013, Monika filmed a quick panning video which featured both the Cartier boutique and the church where we would say our vows (without knowing any of this!). So in short, Prague was the most fairytale-like and whimsical city for us, and that's how we choose it as the backdrop for our forever after.
completely unplanned: kanye west debuted his
'runaway' short film on october 5, 2010 in paris
- exactly five years before our wedding
GERMAN OR PAKISTANI?
As first generation Canadian immigrants who were born and mostly-raised in our home countries, our heritage and cultural traditions were very important to us. So was it German traditions or Pakistani customs? Neither. Our wedding was a carefully selected curation of exactly what we felt was important to us - from what we wore to the music to the food to the wedding rituals. We fused together our two cultures and ended up with a wedding that was uniquely our own.
our first dance was outside immediately after the ceremony,
we served cake before dinner at a tea party,
and we had a total of five official wedding events
WHO CRIED MORE?
From the moment I proposed to Monika (details here!), it was our running joke that she would be balling her eyes out during the ceremony, and also during the whole wedding. She is the person who walks into a wedding venue before any celebration has started and starts to get teary-eyed. But wouldn't you know, those three days, she had a massive smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes, and I was the softly who had tears streaming down during the ceremony. So there, I published it.
october 5 2015 was also somehow miraculously the best
weather that prague had in years and years
I always say this - but every time I flip through photos from our wedding, I am immediately whisked back to that beautiful time. And this is why I will never ever tire of looking at them (or of posting them!). Although we invested in a videographer to capture our day, these snapshots are still my favourite. I hope some of your questions were answered from our wedding! Were you surprised? What is your favourite?
