LONDON, MILAN, PARIS
June 2016 will go down in the narrative of my life. It was fundamental in maturing me more then I did in perhaps all of the entire last year. The month saw me coordinate an amazing birthday for my wife, travel to and attend London Fashion Week, visit the Leaning Tower of Piza, walk through the world famous Pitti Uomo in Florence, travel to and attend Milan Fashion Week, including have exclusive access to the Press Office at Camera Moda (the organization that puts on MFW) and then travelling to Paris for Paris Fashion Week. Within maybe 20 days, all of these profound, bucket list worthy experiences happened, and I got to bring my readers along for the ride via Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, and of course feature articles on KohlerCharles.com.
I remember the summer I first started this blog, I flipped through all of the images uploaded hourly on GQ.com from Milan and Paris during June’s Men’s Fashion Weeks, and thinking vaguely that it would be so spectacular to attend those shows somehow and report back on them. In that same moment, I remember scolding myself about having such unrealistic (and what I thought at the time was shallow) goals. Little did I know the amount of time, patience and work required to actually receive an invitation to a coveted Runway Show during any of the Fashion Weeks.
I am saying all of this and writing it all down so that I can always remember this feeling of accomplishment and drive and passion, and as life as a freelancer and a creative gets more difficult and more rejections come in and the projects become harder, I remind myself that I once was a little kid scrolling through GQ and wondering how I could ever accomplish attendance to those shows, and look where we are now.
