I had written down in my 2012 goals that this year for Christmas, I was going to be doing something very different and unique then any other Christmas. As some of you might be aware, Christmas – although magical and glittery – does become mundane closest to the 24th and 25th. So in an attempt to inject a healthy dose of novelty into the main festivities, we planned a decidedly varied day, beginning with a very highbrow activity of going to the ballet; the Nutcracker nonetheless. The Alberta Ballet put on a spectacular performance, but we ducked out during intermission to meet my kids for a healthily middle-brow activity of coffee and gift exchange at the local Starbucks. This was followed with an early evening service (would this be considered low-brow?), and then a massive Christmas feast and Advent-wreath lighting ceremony at the house. All in all, a very successful Christmas Eve. This one will go down in the books. And what did you do on December 24?
