One of my favourite days of the year is #March30 because it is the day that I was born! And as much as I love everyone else's birthdays and my anniversaries and other holidays, I love my birthday just a little bit more. That's fair, right?
This was another non-local birthday for me, and not because we are currently living in Berlin. This year, I went chasing sunshine in Croatia, and woke up on my birthday to head straight to the airport. Breakfast consisted of a cupcake on the flight, lunch was al fresco overlooking the ocean at one of the top-rated restaurants in Zadar, and dinner was American-style pancakes. Yes, we take food very seriously, especially for birthdays.
My wife made sure I was showered with gifts throughout the day (including car service to the airport!), and my beautiful group of Berlin friends made sure I was celebrated in every which way. Isn't it funny how as the birthdays add up, its less about the gifts you open and more about the people you get to see, and the food you get to eat?
If growing up comes with this increased wisdom and affinity towards what really matters, then I am so ready to keep getting older.
