To celebrate the opening of its own first flagship boutique and to honour Italy’s National Republic Day, designer/owner Lulù Poletti hosted an elegant open house featuring all things Italian – from the Presecco being served to the marble tables showcasing the Italian leather handbags. When we entered the event, though, our eyes and hands went instantly to the luxurious and fashion forward collection of Melampo, a Milanese-grown, Berlin-based fashion label that draws direct inspiration from prestigious Italian craftsmanship and highlights the new age of Italian Fashion.
The stunning marble pieces – including light fixtures, tables, and coasters – are conceptualized and designed by Lulù’s husband, Frédéric Louis Fourrichon, who is also the principle architect behind the distinctly Italian yet modern flagship boutique in the centre of Berlin. Brass racks suspend the gorgeous pieces of the latest collection while the grand white marble table acts as a self-described butler in the centre of the space. We munched on delicious parmesan and sipped crisp Presseco while discussing travel, fashion and the collision of cultures in Berlin.
The history of Melampo goes back many generations, to the hat-making factory of Lulù’s grandparents, which then converted to an Italian garment production shop, where Lulù and her siblings spent their childhood playing, and unintentionally learning all about the fashion industry. Now, Lulù draws inspiration from all around her when designing her collections – from her travels, from her childhood memories, from Italian femininity and Berlin’s urban cool.
We thoroughly enjoyed the luxurious and tastefully curated selection of fine Italian goods that Melampo‘s Concept Store had to offer, including handbags from CORSOUNDICI and a marble light fixture from Brian Sironi. Most impressive for us, though, was the stunning clothing which featured nude illusion lace, metallic taffeta-like fabrics and the finest Italian silk. We can’t wait to see what this exciting label has in store in its future.
