Earlier this year, we discovered we were expecting our first baby! And one of the first things I did was download a bunch of apps to track and plan for everything to do with baby. Since then, I narrowed them down and now an presenting my top five that every new dad needs on their phone.
HiMommy
This is a super simple daily app - it doesn't track anything and can't be personalized, but it's clean design and modern UI meant I actually checked it almost daily in the first and second trimester. It features a little snippet, in the voice of your baby, about what's going on that day, including a visual representation of what your baby looks like. Super cute.
What To Expect
This classic source of resource is actually very user friendly and up-to-date. There is weekly videos, with tons of articles and forums to be connected to. It goes over what's happening with the baby, and also with the mom's body. For me, this was just great to read and read and get insight from so many other expecting parents.
Ovia
So this app is more personalized and more for those of us who like to input a ton of stuff. So you can go in here to find out what date you were 36 weeks and 5 days. And also, mama's can track their sleep, their food and multivitamin intake, and anything else worth noting. Come labour time, it also features a very easy contracting timer that again, will come in handy. It also has a bunch of cool renderings of baby from inside the womb.
Spotify
Of course, I already had this app downloaded. But once we found out about baby, we used Spotify to first listen to parenting / pregnancy podcasts, and then to also design a ton of playlists for baby. I was able to make and curate a delivery, a labour, and a first day playlist with specific music for the baby. We also designed one with relaxing music that we've been playing all of the third trimester so when she's here, she has that soothing memory.
Baby Tracker
A simple but powerful app, the Baby Tracker is used to track new baby's feeding, diapering and sleeping. Another important thing to track your baby's development and be able to narrow down any potential issues. Good thing about this one is that it works across devices, so both my wife and I have it on our phones, plus, we have it on the iPad which lives in Baby's nursery and plays her music. This way, anyone can enter in a diaper change, etc., and the report will capture it. It also has tons of 'other' categories you can track if you want, including tummy time, a whole list of firsts, etc.
I obviously don't want to encourage anyone to be stuck to their apps or devices during pregnancy or when you have a newborn, but I like to be capture moments / memories, and I love to be organized. It ensures I don't feel stressed out, so for me, these tracking apps were the perfect way to progress through our pregnancy journey.
What do you think? Have any other apps you use?
