AUGUST 2010 @ NAKUSP, BRITISH COLUMBIA
Yesterday’s post evoked excitement and glamor; today’s has a distinctly somber yet optimistic undertone. The completion of post-secondary is a huge shift in life-cycle, and typically goes hand-in-hand with a first career move. Thoughts of engagements, mortgages, baby carriages and the whole bit come racing in all at the same time, vying for attention. My girlfriend – the wise woman that she is – always reminds me to never fully rely on a 5 year or even 1 year plan, because things change on the daily – perceptions, ideals, opportunities, setbacks. Her and I often spend hours of our nights discussing back and forth all of the what-ifs that our life may or may not have in store for us. Communication being my degree, and a key to a healthy relationship, you can imagine how lengthy these conversations may get. But as convoluted, theoretical and potentially controversial as they may get, we always end back on the same fundamental premise – life can not be too planned out. “We’ll see what happens”. A rough outline may provide some guidance, but a critical merit is to take everything as it comes, one day at a time, and rest assured in knowing that you will never go through anything alone.
