One of my favorite emerging designers right now is Rad Hourani. A fashion designer originally from Jordan, established in Montreal and now living and designing in Paris – is there a more international, globalized story around? He sent his first runway models down the catwalk when he was just 25 years old. But the real reason we love him at The Endoxist is because he embodies exactly what the premise of this blog is about: non-conventional society-bending perpetration of a new ideal in fashion. Rad, much like myself, doesn’t believe in gender segregation of fashion; if women can wear it, so can men. For this reason, he has sent male and female models down the runway in identical outfits, showing just how unisex his looks are. Additionally, he frequently employees very androgynous models to showcase his masterpieces. And masterpieces they most certainly are, with beautiful materials, architectural tailoring and a painstaking attention to detail. It reminds me of Balenciaga circa 2000s no?
Both his couture-esque main collection and his diffusion line – RAD by Rad Hourani – is so screamingly chic, and the best part is that Rad himself dresses almost exclusively in his designs. How refreshing, a young and emerging designer who embraces his style aesthetic. His collections are only identified by a sequential order – ‘Collection 4’ – and none of the Spring or Fall labels that the rest of the industry follows: another striking testament to his departure from rules and conventions. I die at the thought of owning or wearing any of his gorgeous pieces. But of course, the collection is sold in prestigious boutiques in Florence, Tokyo, Milan, Hong Kong and Paris. A wonderful example of a successful Endoxist functioning in the fashion industry, Rad Hourani is truly an inspiration. And his clothes are way dope.
