You know when something goes totally out of whack in your regularly scheduled life? You're a bit annoyed, sure, but then you deal with it and move on. But what happens when these annoyed and unexpected things happen in a row, over and over? It seems like your luck has run out, or that you're being thrown some bad karma for some reason. That probably sums up our last week pretty well. We were even joking with each other that its the worst week ever.
Starting with last Sunday, our 9:00 am flight to New York was cancelled (without us being informed) and we were rebooked on a 9:00 pm flight, but told to wait around the airport and check with the counter every thirty minutes for a potential spot opening up. We ended up missing our entire first day of New York Fashion Week, along with confirmed (front row) seats. A few days later, due to our calendars not syncing with our iPhones while on Airplane mode in the States, we ended up missing backstage access to a coveted show during NYFW. When we left our second hotel in New York, we got double charged. Meanwhile, the tenant living in our rental property went radio silent after not paying rent for February, and we had to serve an Eviction Notice. We also accidentally deleted video footage from our New York trip, and - the cherry on top - our storage locker in our Toronto condo was broken into, and one lucky thief walked away with Jo Malone, Pandora, Swatch, Dior, and YSL, all neatly packed in a luggage, ready to roll away.
and when all of this happens in the span of one week, how does it make you feel?
Well I can tell you, for us, some of the things we have been feeling is discouraged, alone, without support, annoyed, frustrated, disheartened, upset, disconnected, more annoyed. The list of synonyms goes on and on. It's so easy for things like this to pile up and especially when we feel like we have no control over them, it can really feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
But what I am trying to do - and I encourage you to do - is to let those moments happen. Allow yourself to be angry, to be let down. But then try something else. Take stock, see what else is going on. For us, this week was also the very first time we got to experience New York Fashion Week. We had Lexus car service, we got to wear incredible designers, we got on the earlier flight home, we are making content we are so proud of. We are alive, healthy, and we have each other.

Life can so easily derail, but our reaction towards the lemon is the only way we can survive and thrive.
I don't have to repeat age-old cliches, but folks, lemonade definitely tastes better then lemons. Here's to more series of unfortunate events; let us let them frustrate us, but never defeat us. There is too much beauty in life to let that happen.
