Sexy. Provocative. Daring. Pushing the envelope. Breaking from social norm. Being different but yet the same. Everything portrayed in the above Tom Ford editorial photo is precisely the opposite of what my new position with a prestigious firm here in Calgary’s downtown expects from me. I knew that this day would come – after years of a grueling but enjoyable experience at the University, I was almost waiting for this day to arrive. And while it seems that menswear as of late has taken a decidedly ‘corporate’ turn, its still quite an alternative direction for me to step into. No more sock-less loafers, statement blazers, chains, cuffs, or death boots – well not for my day job anyway. While I was expecting this, I certainly thought I was a bit more prepared than I am. So that just means one thing; time to hit the shops and find some business-professional clothes (my firm doesn’t believe in the term “business casual”, ha). And while you may wonder why this presents such a dilemma to me, understand that the basis of this blog is fashion, after all, and as such, fashion rules a lot of things in my life. So for the time being, I am in dire need of more button up dress shirts, tie clips, suits and pockets squares – and that in itself is pretty exciting!
