The greatest rapper alive is not Lil Wayne. And although he may be one of my favorites, it certainly is not Kanye West. Not NAS, not any of the new kids – its Hova, in my humble opinion. His new album, released today, presents an elevated sound – mad crazy dope beats, the ever-present cocky I-Have-It-All lyrics, the references made to both his wife and his daughter, but most importantly, a heightened sense of aesthetic, style and luxury are abound. I know that initial reviews have both praised and bashed this, but for me, this is Jay growing with his fans. We aren’t bumping around club-hopping anymore (although that is still sometimes on the agenda). We are growing up, buying properties and making businesses, questioning life and getting married, re-establishing friendships, buying art, rocking high-end designer clothes! Thanks Jay, for putting out that newnew. I’m already exciting to bump this shit on repeat all summer.
