One of the best ways to truly experience a new country is to indulge in a few exclusive (and sometimes pricier) experiences. Today, I am sharing five unique ways that you can incorporate some luxury in your Thailand trip:
SPEED BOAT
Our resort in Trang was only accessible via a boat, so taking a whole day excursion only made sense. The private boat took us from island to island, from deep sea snorkeling to deserted beaches. Ours even had lunch on board (the most delicious fried rice and fried chicken!) and fresh fruits that were served while we were lounging on a private beach. Um, literally dead at the thought.
ELEPHANT PARK
The history of Asian elephants in Thailand is centuries old, and this animal is the national symbol of the country. When a 1939 law declared Thai elephants as a 'work animal', places like the elephant parks were built as safe havens, giving these gentle giants a place to earn their living. The Phang Nga Elephant Park was a beautiful reminder of the ways in which humans support these animals, and the entire experience was literally life changing. From walking with them and feeding them, to giving them a bath, it is truly one a kind.
CANAL TOUR
Much like Amsterdam and Venice, Bangkok has an intricate and historic networks of canals which were (and still are) used as major roadways for the locals. A ton of people still live along these watery streets, and many beautiful Thai temples border them also. It is such a historic cruise through the canals, again, truly eye-opening to how Thailand grew and developed, and where it came from. The world-famous Wat Arun temple is right on the river, and boats are waiting there to take you around.
NATIONAL PARK
Thailand is - rightfully so - very proud of its natural wonders, and therefore, you will find a ton of spaces like this. A beautiful island that has been deemed a national park so no hotels or other commerce activities can be built on there. Its literally an untouched beach with a few huts serving drinks. We felt like we were on a movie set the entire time.
FINE DINING
Did you know that there are currently over 200 restaurants in Bangkok that have been awarded the coveted Michelin-star designation. While there, we got to experience the culinary genius of Chef Sujira ‘Aom’ Pongmorn & Chef Pâtissière Arisara ‘Paper’ Chongphanitkul, who served up a ten+ course tasting menu that covered the very best in Thai cuisine. Some dishes were modernized into fine cuisine, some respected their heritage and were served in their native state. Regardless, we left stuffed and fulfilled. Top notch service and even better food!
In terms of luxury accommodation in Thailand, I wrote all about the St. Regis Bangkok. If you are able to do it all, then do, if you are not, I highly recommend budgeting for at least one of the above when you plan your trip to Thailand.
What would you splurge on?
